Getting Started

Playing on Caelum is relatively straightforward. The first thing you need to do is get a character. You can choose to play one of the Featured Characters, also known as FCs, (a pre-written character) or you can go through the steps to create a new Original Character, also known as OCs, following the guidelines and theme of Caelum. FCs are highly recommended for first time players as they come with connections, plots, and relationships to other characters in the story that are very helpful when you are first learning how to play the game.

**Applying to a Roster Character**

1. Connect to Caelum with your client or through our webclient.
2. At the login prompt, enter 'guest'.
3. Add your email. Type 'add/email' <your email address>
4. Apply to the FC you would like to play. Type 'roster/apply' <character name> = <application>.
- Your application should contain some information for Staff as to why you were drawn to the character, what kinds of goals, ambitions, and motivations they might have, where they could fit in during the current story or player-run-plots and the direction you are hoping to take the character. The more questions you answer about what kind of experience you are looking for the better we are able to help you find that experience.
5. Hit enter and you are finished with the application for Featured Characters. Give us time to review your application, get back to you with our feedback, and consider whether you might be a good fit for the character, if not we will -always- have an alternative suggestion as our goal is to help you find the perfect fit for the experience you're looking for while staying loyal to the theme of Caelum.

**Creating an Original Character**

The world we have built in Caelum is rich, vibrant, and alive with stories waiting to be told. We would hope that as you read more about the world lore and the current story as it has unfolded you might feel inspired to create alongside us! Sometimes an FC just doesn't match the idea you had in your head for that Naga priestess or that Thayne Warlord and even still some people just prefer making something that is all their own. There are a few rules that OCs need to follow but we will discuss that under the Momentum help file.

1. Once you've given this some thought and are ready to create your character use the 'charcreate <email>' command to submit your email address.
2. Follow the instructions on screen and if you have any questions or get stuck you can chat in the Guest channel by typing 'guest <message>' and someone, player or Staff, will be available to help you with those pesky commands.
3. After you have submitted all the necessary fields (haircolor, eyecolor, height, race, etc) you will select your stats and skills for the character you have in mind from the vocational skill packages available or by entering them in yourself.
4. Finally type 'add/submit <application>' to submit your finished character. As with FCs it is important to answer those core questions above, even more so as your character lacks some of the written in advantages that Featured Characters may have like pre-established relationships, story hooks, and plot beats. We're very diligent when it comes to adding new characters and may return your application once or twice to make sure it meets the community standards but don't be discouraged and ask for help if you need it, we are happy to lend you our expertise or insights.
