The jungles of Mahabhari, in the Southeast, are colloquially referred to as the Naga kingdoms, even if they are ruled by a single monarch; the Nagaraja. A rigid caste system is in place that is defined based on appearance. It is said that those whose blood runs strong with the old ones are meant to rule while those who are diluted from their intermixing with the people of Sotheria, to the South, or the Jade Empire, to the East, are said to be inferior. The upper caste, known as the Ishaa, bear a very serpentine appearance, although they could pass for human, they have large golden eyes with serpentine irises, extended fangs that are said to be poisonous, and soft scales around the edges of their faces, down their necks and on the outer portions of their arms, back and legs. They are taller than other races of man and possessing of almost inhuman levels of alacrity. The lower caste, referred to as the Ishaaru or half-bloods, tends to appear as the other races of man save for a few traits like - golden eyes, sharp features, forked tongues, or a freckling of scales here and there - that might give away their ancestral ties to the lands of the Naga people. It’s said that they still worship the nagas who live beneath the subterranean tunnels of their temples, occupying vast underground cities of opulence where blood sacrifices take place. The Southeast is a jungle paradise to some and a nightmare to others depending on their disposition and sense of perilous adventure. Many varieties of plants and animals can be found here. While not an exhaustive list by any means reptiles of all kinds can be found here as well as tigers, panthers, monkeys, exotic birds, sloths, jaguars, and apes so large they defy belief.
