South of Syldemor, there lies a mountain range called simply the Bones. Dry, arid and inhospitable to all but the hardiest of scavengers the pass known as the Demon Gulch is one of the most difficult to navigate without a great deal of preparation. Going around it is practically out of the question, however, with the arid heat of the open desert and the shifting sea of sand claiming the lives of many who thought themselves master explorers. Southerners who live in the region have adapted to the environment; vessels known as sandstriders and dunesurfers are some of the most common ways to traverse the wide region and this technology lies solely in the hands of the Caliphate, an advantage they would not so readily give up for the sake of niceties with the other principalities of Caelum. Those who can secure passage aboard these wondrous ships can expect a swift voyage to the heart of Sotheria where the capital, Dalmasca, lies. Known as the Crown Jewel of the South, this immense city-state is a land of open air, cloth covered bazaars, bustling sandstone streets, limestone spires, and a palace that stretches for miles in circumference, a city in and of itself. Though the outskirts of the South are bleak, the interior is an oasis of verdant splendor featuring water gardens. Of the greatest dangers in the region, the iconic sandworm has grown to become a monolith -- prominent in many tales of the dangerous and beautiful kingdom of Sotheria. To the every day people, this is the end of Caelum, but to those who have been there it is said that further South lies a hellish wasteland occupied by demons and monsters. Surely only fanciful stories.
