The Great Forest, also known as Syldemor, or more simply the Wood, is the largest and most primordial forest on the continent where the Horned Men live in secretive arboreal enclaves. Many hundreds of thousands of acres are overgrown with nary a path to navigate as the people of the great forest do not care to destroy the beautiful splendor of nature to accommodate the other races. In this same vein they are fierce conservationists who will respond with unrepentant violence to any who would do harm to the Wood or its denizens. Many wars have started and been ended on these principles. Naturally this lends to the other races giving this area a wide berth and being heavy handed with their respective vassals to ensure that this sort of thing does not happen. Apothecaries eagerly study the many herbs, roots, and other flora that are willingly given from the horned men as they seem to have, nothing short of, very potent or downright miraculous effects in some instances. Small fortunes are paid for the opportunity to gain safe passage into the Wood and most of king Caelan’s incomes stem from either the export of the exotic flora, or the expeditions into the depths of Syldemor. As one might expect from a primordial forest there are all manner of animals that make their homes here and while this list is not exclusive to all the animals which might be found here these are those more commonly encounter; birds, deer, great elk, squirrels, raccoons, owls, mammoth bears, non-poisonous snakes, rabbits, foxes, badgers, mice, wild boar, giant tree spiders, and various species of birds.
