The Adversary

The twin emanation of Sophia, the mother goddess. She is the mother of all darkness and possesses many names; the Crawling Mists, the Black Queen, Messenger of the Old Ones, Speaker for the Outer gods, Entropy, The Devourer and others still since long forgotten. The Adversary is first of the great old ones - although more accurately it would be best to collectively refer to them as the dead gods. These are the aborted great spirits of emanations - her sister Sophia, allegedly, chose to discard - given new life by the Adversary. Through the actions of the various cults that serve her, she managed to avoid exile to the outer realms where her kindred were and still are imprisoned by Sophia and remains the source of many sacrifices willingly provided by the collective disciples, priesthoods, and faithful. The Adversary is at times called the Faceless God because it is said that she possesses a thousand forms and manifestations even if she only has a single avatar on this plane of existence. Some of these forms are pleasant and comely while others are too maddening to describe and have driven those who were unfortunate enough to bear witness into the depths of insanity with but a glimpse. The many cults of the dead gods are still active and are said to be firmly under Entropy's control in some way or another.
